New Report Reveals Why Real Madrid Elected to Sign Ancelotti Over Pochettino

Real Madrid became the latest powerhouse European club to fill its managerial vacancy as it came to terms with now-former Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti for a multiyear contract deal.

Real Madrid had been in the rumor mill with multiple names as it sought to find a new manager, including current Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino. In the end, there were several reasons as to why the La Liga giants resisted from making a run to sign the Argentine manager.

The Spanish-based outlet Cadena Ser reveals that Pochettino was highly regarded by Real Madrid officials and they had planned to push to bring in the former Tottenham boss. Real Madrid believed that Pochettino was soon going to part ways with PSG amid the recent rumors regarding his interest in a possible Tottenham move.

The report adds that Real Madrid elected not to open up contacts with Pochettino as it did not want to undercut PSG officials. The Spanish side aims to maintain its strong relationship with PSG, especially as it still plans to make a run for Kylian Mbappe.

Tottenham now stands as the lone notable club still with a managerial vacancy. Thus, the rumors linking Pochettino to Spurs will now be the main storyline to watch in the coming days.
