Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest, but who can rest when there’s so much going on in the world of football and Paris Saint-Germain?
On the latest 1970 podcast, I’m joined by Marc Damon to discuss breaking news regarding a European Super League, the upcoming UEFA Champions League semi-final against Manchester City, and the come-from-behind win over AS Saint-Étienne.
Up first, we set our target on the Super League. Why have some of Europe’s top clubs decided to break away from their domestic leagues and UEFA competitions? As of now, PSG has decided to stick with the current system, but could they join the Super League eventually? What all goes into setting up a new league and who are the winners and losers? We try to cover every angle of this evolving story.
Next, we touch on PSG’s triumph over FC Bayern Munich in the Champions League. How did PSG get past the Bundesliga giants and what changes will Mauricio Pochettino make as he prepares his squad to face Manchester City in the semi-finals. With Kevin De Bruyne potentially out due to injury, PSG is poised to take advantage and reach their second final in consecutive years.
Finally, we get to PSG’s thrilling 3-2 win over Saint-Étienne at the Parc des Princes on Sunday. Kylian Mbappé’s brace and a game-winning header from Mauro Icardi secured the three points and pulled PSG within one point of league-leaders Lille OSC. As we look at the remaining schedule, should PSG be more worried about Lille, or AS Monaco who sits just one point behind Les Parisiens in third?
