Heading into the 2020-21 season, many Paris Saint-Germain supporters understood that Julian Draxler would depart the French club in June when his contract expired.
Nonetheless, with the appointment of new manager Mauricio Pochettino, the 27-year-old has seen an increase in playing time. Furthermore, Draxler did state how he’s happy with his role during an interview PSG TV.
However, those comments appear to be lip service as the Germany international seems to be on the way out. According to Italian football journalist Nicolò Schira, Draxler is out and will depart the club this summer.
There are no further details about where Draxler will go or what type of deal he’s looking for as he proceeds to be a free agent. With UEFA Euro 2020 occurring in a few months and the 2022 FIFA World Cup taking place next year, Draxler wants to be on the Germany national team.
As Joachim Löw steps down from the position as Germany’s manager, Draxler will need consistent playing time to show he deserves one of the national team’s spots.
