The UEFA Champions League quarterfinals will see a rematch of last year’s final with FC Bayern Munich going head-to-head with Paris Saint-Germain. The capital club will have revenge on their mind as they try to make a second consecutive semifinal.
Judging by the confrontation a season ago, it will be a close matchup, with mistakes being the critical factor in who comes away with the result. Ahead of the first leg, Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernandez spoke to L’Equipe, discussing the tie and playing against France national teammate Kylian Mbappé.
“It will be a very big game, a meeting to have fun. It will not be easy to eliminate PSG, who will be a little revenge compared to the last final. The Parisians will be envious but so will we,” Hernandez said.
“Mbappé? If I have to face him, I’ll say two, three words to him to keep him quiet. I will tell him above all that he has an interest in playing on the Parisian left side (laughs). If he comes on the right, it will be war. Just kidding, but it’s true that he has a lot of talent and you have to be very careful with him.”
Heading into this tie, the French giants will need Neymar Jr. and Mbappé to dominate. In last year’s final, both players didn’t have much of an impact, and it’s safe to say Mbappé has the image of missing a scoring chance.
Furthermore, it will be interesting to see how different PSG looks in these 180 minutes with Mauricio Pochettino than Thomas Tuchel.
