Former PSG Goalkeeper Alonzo Analyzes How Pochettino Can Get the Best Out of Mbappe

Former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Jerome Alonzo has provided his take on just how Mauricio Pochettino can get the best out of Kylian Mbappe.

Ever since Pochettino became PSG’s new manager, Mbappe has had mixed results with his performances. The French forward has recorded four goals and two assists so far under Pochettino.

For Alonzo, he believes that for Pochettino to get the best out of Mbappe, it will come down to making a key positional decision, which he detailed in speaking to Le Parisien.

“I won’t be taken away from the idea that Kylian, the closer he gets to the axis, the less dangerous he is,” Alonzo said. “Kylian is one of the best wingers in the world. This is not debatable. He’s not one of the best number 9s in the world, or even a second 9.”

Mbappe has made multiple starts as a winger under Pochettino. Still, he has often showcased the tendency to hover into zone 14. Now with both Neymar and Angel Di Maria out due to their respective injuries, it will be interesting to see whether Pochettino will play Mbappe out at the center forward spot, or if he will keep the forward out on the wing.
