Former Portuguese Forward Pauleta Says Pochettino Must Establish a Team Identity With PSG

Former Portuguese forward Pauelta is stressing the importance of Mauricio Pochettino establishing a stern team identity with Paris Saint-Germain.

Pochettino’s run as the new manager of PSG has brought promising results. From the Trophee des Champions final win over Olympique de Marseille to multiple strong Ligue 1 victories, Pochettino has had formidable success early on with PSG. But as the Argentine manager may also agree to, the job is not done yet with the team.

Former PSG forward Pauleta is well confident that Pochettino is the right manager for the team but believes that building a team identity will be key to his success at the club.

Pauleta spoke to PSG TV about Pochettino and the keys for his success as the team’s new manager.

“I think it’s very important to have identity,” Pauleta said. “He knows the club well, the people, how football works in France. That’s a very good thing; he also has experience in England.

“The players also need to help. It’s important to do everything to finish the season well and grow. We must arrive at the day we are all waiting for, which is to win the Champions League.”

Pauleta also highlighted PSG forward Moise Kean.

The Italian forward has somewhat fallen out of the starting lineup under Pochettino with the Argentine manager now favoring Mauro Icardi. But overall, Pauleta has confidence in Kean over the remainder of the season.

“He is a very talented player, a very physical young player,” Pauleta said. “He’s still looking at the goal. It’s important for PSG to have a player like him.

“Icardi, Neymar, Mbappé are players who can make a difference at any time, but it’s important to have a player like Kean. He has a lot of ambition, he can bring a lot of things to the team.”

It sure will be interesting to see whether Pochettino will start Icardi or Kean for the upcoming Le Classique fixture.
