Paris Saint-Germain defender Timothee Pembele has been emerging as a prospect to watch for the club.
Under now former PSG manager Thomas Tuchel, the French defender made four Ligue 1 appearances this season and even tacked on his first career goal during the team’s recent league fixture against Strasbourg.
Pembele’s play as of late puts him up there among the rising prospects in the league, but for the young defender, he recognizes that he has a long way to go for the team. He still aims to earn more playing time this season. The French defender spoke about his recent performances and goals for this year in speaking to PSG TV.
“My mentality hasn’t really changed this year but footballing wise I think I’m improving and adapting to Ligue 1 and the intensity of the games,” Pembele said. “As for the rest, I need to stay the same and carry on improving because I’m only starting. The first thing I want from 2021 is to get past the Champions League Round of 16 and that we get back to the top of the league quickly. I hope to get more playing time and work hard” said the 18-year-old defender ahead of 2021.”
Pembele will now have to earn playing time under new PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine manager is known for providing opportunities to young prospects, so Pembele may have a chance to also showcase his play for the former Tottenham manager.
