Five points separate first-place Paris Saint-Germain, who has 28 points in 13 fixtures, and fifth-place AS Monaco, which has 23 points in 11 matches played. In between those two clubs are Olympique de Marseille, Lille OSC, and Olympique Lyonnais.

If all fives keep this same pace where only five points or less separates them, it could be the most exciting race to the finish line that Ligue 1 has seen in quite a while.

With the capital club’s slow start to the season, they allow a few clubs to nip at their heels for first place. As a result, radio host Florian Gazan made a statement on RTL’s airwaves (via Sport.frwhere he believes that Les Parisiens will not win Ligue 1, which they have done seven of the last eight years.

“It’s the 13th day of L1, and the 13th could bring bad luck to Parisians. They could lose the championship lead. And my big odds are that PSG will not be champions of France. Moreover, OM is already a virtual leader. They are two games late against Lens and Nice,” Gazan said.

“Usually, at this point in the championship, PSG no longer sees their opponents in the rearview mirror. On average, during the conquest of these last five titles, Paris was seven points ahead of its dolphin after 12 days. And there is a school of dolphins! Besides Lille, there are Lyon and Monaco which do not play in the European Cup, and it is a big advantage in this season where the PSG is as fresh as a sea bream in the full sun of Ibiza for example!”

Furthermore, Gazan believes that injuries will likely do the capital club and prevent them from winning the 2020-21 Ligue 1 trophy.

“There is this truncated physical preparation that they drag like a ball. As a result, they are on their knees or are injured. Listen to this: since the start of the season, out of the 16 matches it has played, PSG have recorded 105 absences for injuries or a little more than six players withdrawn per game. This beginning of the 2020-2021 fiscal year, it sounds like this old song, I have the spleen which dilates. There, it is rather I have Bernat on one leg, Mbappé all broken, the Neymar in the collard, Di Maria it’s not going, crimson Verratti,” Gazan said.

“Oh my God, it’s complicated to train PSG. Paris not champion, I tell you, this is not science fiction! A final figure: PSG have already lost three league games while, on average, at that time of the season under the Qatari era, they have conceded 0.7 defeats. In short, the other clubs which usually start the season aiming for 2nd place can finally dream of better.”

The only season in which PSG failed to win the league was the 2016-17 season when Monaco claimed the Ligue 1 crown.
