Video: ‘There Is No Explanation’ – Presnel Kimpembe on PSG Giving up 2-0 Lead in Loss to AS Monaco

Against AS Monaco, Presnel Kimpembe served as the anchor for the backline with captain Marquinhos, not in the starting eleven. The 25-year-old played 90 minutes and had a quality match.

Kimpembe had seven clearances, three interceptions and won five of his six ground duels. Nonetheless, that performance wasn’t enough for the capital club to squander a 2-0 lead in the second half as Monaco came back with three straight goals for the 3-2 win.

The PSG central defender spoke with Téléfoot to discuss what went wrong in their second-half collapse.

“There is no explanation. We had a good first half where everyone gave their all despite the fatigue and physical problems. We had a catastrophic second half, even unacceptable. I would say,” Kimpembe said. “We are not allowed to do a second half like that with a team like ours and with the talent that we have. Leipzig? Worrisome no. We are going to say that it is football. These are things that happen.”

“Now, we will look at the game on Tuesday. Today’s game is over, even if it ends in the worst possible way. You just have to raise your head to hope for something else on Tuesday. Malpractice? Of course, it’s our fault. It’s a second half to forget. We have to move on quickly because it was not possible tonight.”
