PSG Claims First Place in the Ligue 1 Table Following Matchday 8

Due to Paris Saint-Germain’s slow start to the new Ligue 1 season, the club had to gradually crawl its way to the top half of the table. Les Parisiens picked up a much-needed winning streak over the past month and had a golden opportunity to finally reach first place in the league over matchday eight.

First, PSG needed to clinch a home league win against Dijon to give itself an opportunity to reach the top of the table. Neymar and company got the job done as the club recorded a 4-0 victory over Dijon.

PSG then needed Lille OSC to finish with a draw or loss against OGC Nice. Lille wound up finishing with a 1-1 draw against Nice. The result for Lille now ties them with PSG at 18 points in the Ligue 1 table, but Les Parisiens currently claims the top spot in the league due to an advantage with the 17-goal differential mark.

PSG will now be aiming to extend its current league winning streak to seven games over its upcoming fixture against FC Nantes.
