Icardi Explains Why he Decided to Sign With PSG

When Paris Saint-Germain signed Mauro Icardi on a season-long loan deal from Inter Milan last year, it seemed inevitable that the club was going to end up triggering the buy option in the agreement. Icardi’s stout performances from last season made the decision easier for PSG’s board as the club wound up completing the permanent transfer move for him.

Over last season, Icardi did not know for sure whether PSG would move forward and sign him away from Inter. The Argentine had a bitter ending to his tenure with Inter, so if PSG decided not to sign him on a transfer deal, his future would have been up in the air. Icardi spoke to beIN Sports about the uncertainty that he felt last season regarding his future.

“As soon as I arrived I adapted well,” Icardi said. “Last year with my family it was a year of transition. Because my wife had stayed in Italy with the children who were attending school. We didn’t know if I was going to stay in Paris or not because I was loaned to the club.

“A year of going back and forth but this year we decided to bring everything back and start a new life here. I’m very happy and well adjusted.”

Icardi did have a strong opening campaign with PSG last season. But the forward is currently struggling to replicate last season’s showings over to the ongoing one; he has scored a mere two goals this season. Still, there is plenty of time for him to turn his current season around.
