Paris Saint-Germain will be facing Dijon up next in a pivotal home league fixture. PSG will be aiming to extend its current winning streak but also bounce back after the loss to Manchester United. Les Parisiens need to pick up momentum as it heads into its next UEFA Champions League group stage fixture next week.
Dijon manager Stephane Jobard is expecting a hungry and motivated PSG side. PSG is not one to regularly lose two games in a row, so Jobard knows (via Dijon’s official website) that his side will have to put up a performance of the season in order to pick up a result against the reigning Ligue 1 champions.
“We know the pride of champions, they come out of a poor performance against Manchester United,” Jobard said. “They might want to show that they are still performing well in the league. They might want to redeem themselves.”
Jobard has put some thought into simply parking the bus against PSG. But as previous teams have shown, this tactic is not one that will guarantee a result.
“There are teams that have tried to defend with a lot of defensive elements, but over time you cry out,” Jobard said. “The Angevins tried it, they ended up taking 6. So telling yourself that you will strengthen yourself defensively and that you will armor, it’s complicated because individual talent does the rest in the last 20 meters. What is important is to give yourself recovery times with slightly higher ball possession.”
Depending on Lille’s result over this matchday, a win for PSG against Dijon could possibly give the club a first place standing in the league for the first time this season.
