By now, everyone knows that six players on the Paris Saint-Germain squad tested positive for coronavirus. Five of those players likely contracted the virus on their vacation to Ibiza, a Spanish island in the Mediterranean Sea.

Since the news came out, there’s plenty of criticism heading towards the players’ way. RMC Sport football analyst Jérôme Rothen was critical of the group; meanwhile, inside the club, there was anger at the situation that the players put themselves in by traveling.

Although all this criticism is warranted considering we are still dealing with a global-wide pandemic, and traveling for non-essential reasons isn’t the smartest of choices, someone is coming to the players’ defense.

Montpellier HSC president Laurent Nicollin spoke with Midi Libre (via Culture PSG) to tell people to ease their criticism of the six PSG players.

“It’s so easy to criticize. The virus circulates and is caught on the streets or anywhere,” Nicollin said. “We are not immune to having a family meal at home or a barbecue. Three days later, half of the people caught the virus because the great-nephew left the day before. We must stop seeing life whiter than white.”

The capital club will be without half of their regular starters as their Ligue 1 season gets underway with two matches this upcoming week against RC Lens and Olympique de Marseille.
