Neymar Jr. will no longer have a partnership with Nike. RMC Sport’s Mohamed Bouhafsi tweeted out the news and added that the 28-year-old would be joining Puma.
Furthermore, UOL Esporte states that Neymar’s deal with Nike will come to an end when the calendar turns to September. The Brazilian media outlet adds that even before the coronavirus pandemic, the PSG forward had difficulty reaching a new deal with Nike, a company that he’s been with since the age of 13.
There’s no information on when the deal between Neymar and Puma officially begins, but there’s no question that he will be the footballer will be the marquee star in their marketing department.
Now some will say it’s a foolish decision of the 28-year-old deciding to part-ways with Nike, but other star players have left the swoosh logo and are doing fine.
Kawhi Leonard of the Los Angeles Clippers left the Jordan Brand, a sub-section of Nike, for New Balance in 2018. Meanwhile, Steph Curry decided to leave Nike for Under Armour in 2013 and has extended his contract until 2024.
Perhaps Neymar wants to be the alpha male and have a company that revolves around him and has more influence in creating and marketing products.
