Report: Edinson Cavani and Benfica Remain in Contract Talks

Edinson Cavani departed Paris Saint-Germain at the end of June and has yet to find a club this summer. However, there’s one rumor that won’t go away, and that’s a potential move to SL Benfica.

Last month, there was a report that El Matador is seeking a three-year deal. Furthermore, it stated that Cavani was in Lisbon taking a tour of the club’s facilities and stadium.

It felt as though a deal was imminent, but Benfica came out with a statement denying any interest in the 33-year-old.

Despite the Portuguese club refuting the news, RMC Sport is standing by reports suggesting there’s interest from both parties are negotiating a potential deal. Nonetheless, no offer is currently on the table.

Benfica’s new manager, Jorge Jesus, spoke at a press conference where he mentioned what he plans to do during this transfer window.

“We know the targets we want. We know how far we can go, the president knows, and so we have to be aware of players that we are going to sign to meet the goals that Benfica has.” Jesus said.

Whether or not this includes Cavani will remain to be seen.
