Neymar’s Former Agent Delivers Blow to Barcelona

The FC Barcelona trolls that constantly tweet about Neymar Jr. returning to their club this summer certainly won’t like what his former agent had to say recently.

“I think Neymar will stay at PSG because the market is different,” Wagner Ribeiro told Fox Sports (via Yahoo Sports). “The economic world of football will change.”

Ribeiro is, of course, referencing the coronavirus pandemic that has had a substantial financial impact on football clubs due to the suspension of leagues and the lack of revenue from media broadcasters.

Even before the health crisis, Barcelona was in a difficult financial situation so to think they could afford one player with a price tag of €150 million is pretty ridiculous.

Neymar left Barcelona in 2017 for Paris Saint-Germain in a move that cost the Ligue 1 champions €222 million. Ever since, the Catalan club has been itching to bring him back to the Camp Nou with last summer being the closest they’ve come yet.

At one point, Barcelona’s rivals, Real Madrid, tried to sign Neymar as confirmed by Ribeiro.

“I went to Madrid several times because Florentino had the dream of taking Neymar,” Ribeiro said. “Last year I was with him, in May, in his office, and he even told me that he still dreams of signing Neymar.”

Whether its Barcelona or Real Madrid, both Spanish clubs can forget about signing Neymar…for this summer at least.
