‘He Can Be an Important Player in the Workforce’ – French Football Pundit Wants to See Silva Stay at PSG

One of the ongoing discussions surrounding Paris Saint-Germain is about what they will decide to do with their current captain, Thiago Silva.

Last month it was being reported that both sides were in the beginning stages of a contract extension with Les Parisiens wanting to bring back Silva. A few weeks later, Isabelle Silva, the wife of the PSG center-back, went on record stating her preference to remain in Paris.

A few days ago, former capital club goalkeeper, Jérôme Alonzo, gave his opinion that PSG should extend Silva as well.

Now Pierre Ménès, who was on Canal Plus (via Foot01), went on record to encourage an extension for the 35-year-old, but he has a few stipulations if Les Parisians decide to bring back their captain.

“I do not agree that Thiago Silva should not be extended. He remains a very successful player in Ligue 1 and nothing prevents us from thinking that the defense of the Champions League could be Marquinhos with Kimpembe even if Thiago Silva is still at the club,” Ménès said. “If he agrees to lower his salary, he can be an important player in the workforce. But what is very important for PSG is above all to sign Kouassi.”

PSG wanting to ask Silva to take a salary reduction is a given. Being in his mid-30’s, Silva can’t command the type of wages he’s currently receiving from the club.

Also, he will have to understand that he will be taking on a lesser role with Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe as the regular starters at center-back.
