Jadon Sancho is one of the hottest names floating around the transfer rumor mill with both Liverpool FC and Manchester United linked with the Borussia Dortmund winger.
The 20-year-old England international who came up through the Manchester City system has had a stellar season in the Bundesliga scoring 17 goals and recording 20 assists through 37 appearances.
Joining Sancho in the top tier of young footballers in Europe are teammate Erling Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappé.
During an interview with GentingBet (via Metro), former England international and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey was asked who The Reds should prioritize in the upcoming transfer windows and he went with the patriotic choice.
“I’d choose Sancho for Liverpool out of the three. Mbappé is a phenomenal player who is another player who keeps on rising and is only going to get better and better.”
“He’s focused more to keep the consistency going at that age is just phenomenal.”
“It’s difficult because for Liverpool you’d choose a player who was more on the wing than central. But again, Haaland’s goals are a key factor.”
“I’m going to be patriotic and say that Sancho would be great, being an England player and an entertaining player as well.”
“I would say someone like that would be great to get on the wing and terrorize defenses.”
This, of course, is the wrong choice. You don’t prioritize a player based on nationality. You go by the talent and according to ESPN, Mbappé is the best player in the game age 21 or under. Sancho is up there but any sporting director who is presented with the option of signing Mbappé or Sancho will choose the Frenchman 10 out of 10 times.
I’m all for this kind of commentary though. Anything that puts a stop to the ridiculous Mbappé-to-Liverpool rumors is fine by me. Let Manchester United and Liverpool fight over Sancho. I’m happy with Mbappé in the French capital for hopefully years to come.
