A recent transfer rumor linking Paris Saint-Germain to Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez sprouted up seemingly out of nowhere but according to a new report, the deal has a zero percent chance of happening.
The Sun (via SI.com) claims that Manchester City has no intention of parting ways with the 29-year-old Mahrez who has scored nine goals and recorded 14 assists in 37 appearances this season.
“There is interest but we have no intentions of letting Riyad go anywhere,” an Etihad source told The Sun.
“[Mahrez] has told Pep [Guardiola] he is very happy and finally feels he has found his place in the set-up despite being in and out of the team.”
“We are comfortable with it all and won’t discuss another contract until next year at the very earliest.”
Mahrez, who has three years left on his current deal at City, is reportedly open to signing an extension with the club despite the fact that they could be banned from the UEFA Champions League for the next two seasons.
At an asking price of nearly €90 million, per The Sun report, it’s unlikely PSG seriously considered Mahrez as an option if at all.
Sure, the club would have the money if Kylian Mbappé or Neymar Jr. left this summer but for that kind of money, PSG sporting director, Leonardo, could find a much better player at a more reasonable price.
