Angel Di Maria opened up the scoring for Paris Saint-Germain against OGC Nice in the 15th minute to put the visitors up 1-0 at the Allianz Riviera.
PSG’s played out from the back after Nice’s attack fizzled out. Di Maria expertly positioned himself on the defensive side of the pitch and waited for a brilliant one-touch pass from fellow Argentine Mauro Icardi.
That pass sprung Di Maria clear and he raced all alone towards Nice keeper Walter Benítez. With the entire Nice defense chasing behind him, Di Maria calmly slotted him the game’s first goal in the far corner.
With Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappé watching from the bench, this is exactly what PSG supporters wanted to see—a fast start after the international break against a difficult opponent on the road. If PSG can control the game, both Cavani and Mbappé may be able to rest the full 90 minutes having just come back from muscle injuries.
