Paris Saint-Germain secured their 13th Ligue 1 title on Saturday with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Angers at Parc des Princes. Nonetheless, their opposition on Wednesday night in the UEFA Champions League could be receiving a boost to their squad.

PSG controlled the first half, firing 11 shots while Angers managed just two. Despite the pressure, the match remained scoreless at halftime.

The breakthrough came in the second half when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia delivered a cross from the left to the far post. Desire Doue met it in stride and volleyed it in with his right foot to give PSG the lead.

Doue’s goal was enough to seal the win and clinch a second straight league title under Luis Enrique. As for their opponent, Aston Villa are heading to the French capital, coming off a win and a seven-match winning streak across all competitions.

Aston Villa won 2-1 over Nottingham Forest at Villa Park on Saturday, extending their impressive run to seven straight victories across all competitions.

Unai Emery spoke to Sky Sports after the win and offered an injury update on a key player as Aston Villa need all the depth to compete in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.

“It is very important to manage the players we have, we are more less with the players available,” Emery said (h/t BBC). “Leon Bailey hopefully can be available for Paris.”

Bailey was sidelined again on Saturday, missing Aston Villa’s clash with Nottingham Forest due to an undisclosed injury. It’s the third straight match he’s been out.

  1. Watkins is turning into a liability we can’t afford to play him, we will need to be at our best in Paris and at the moment he’s gone missing big time

  2. Watkins seems to have gone into a sulk since Villa turned down an offer from Arsenal in January. Prior to this I would have been disappointed if he was to have left. However if the window was open now I would let him go. It seems like he’s not up for the challenge provided by Rashford and Duran, before he left. Sell him in the summer.

    1. SULK! That is nonsense, we are where we are because of players like Watkins, he has just had an injury, give the guy a break.
He will be back to his best shortly, get rid of the negativity.
