Newcastle Relieved: Man City, PSG Unlikely to Activate Star Player’s Release Clause Before June 30 Deadline

The Bruno Guimarães to Paris Saint-Germain transfer rumor surfaced earlier this year. Although there are conflicting reports on whether this saga is over, new information confirms that the capital club won’t be pursuing the file.

This past 2023-24 season, Guimarães featured in 50 matches, scoring seven goals and recording 10 assists in all competitions for the Magpies. Moreover, the 26-year-old has made 107 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 17 goals and registering 16 assists.

Despite the Brazilian being a top-tier defensive midfielder, Football Insider reports, citing sources, that no club is willing to pay the release clause to lure him away from St. James’ Park.

According to the information, Arsenal, Manchester City, and PSG are all set to pass up the opportunity to sign Guimarães. All three clubs hold a strong interest in the midfielder, who is available via a £100 million release clause this summer.

The deal must be struck before June 30, and interested clubs now face a race against time to sign Guimaraes. Nonetheless, the three European giants appear unlikely to be in a position to green-light the deal in that time frame.

As a result, Newcastle are planning for the 2024-25 campaign with Guimaraes as a part of Eddie Howe’s side. It seems PSG will need to look elsewhere if they want to bolster their midfield for next season.
