Man Utd’s Interest in PSG Midfielder Seen as ‘Decent Fit’ to Replace Casemiro, Expert Says

Manuel Ugarte began his debut season at Paris Saint-Germain impressively, but as the season progressed, his role diminished, often seeing him come off the bench or rotate in the squad.

Recently, Ugarte has been linked with moves to Serie A clubs like AC Milan and Juventus, but interest is also growing beyond Italy’s borders. According to Loïc Tanzi of L’Equipe, PSG rejected Manchester United’s initial bid for Ugarte, deeming it too low.

While the exact figure remains undisclosed, PSG is open to negotiations. Moreover, clubs from the Premier League and Bundesliga have also shown interest in acquiring Ugarte.

Nonetheless, with the Red Devils linked to the 23-year-old midfielder, CBS Sports’ Jonathan Johnson spoke on the latest PSG Talking episode about why the English club might be interested in the player.

“I think United will look at this and see a player who they feel is ready-made for the Premier League and would be a good fit for them, especially because they didn’t imagine that Casemiro physically would just deteriorate as much as he has over the course of this season. I don’t think Casemiro is somebody who is going to be coming back and United are going to be able to rely on him in the future.

“So for me, I think it’s, you know, the obvious fit would be Ugarte coming in as sort of cover and eventually being a replacement. For him, we’ve got quite a few Spanish speakers in that United squad, so it could be a decent fit culturally.”

In May, the 23-year-old spoke about his future and noted his desire to stay, so it will be interesting to see if that happens or whether PSG cuts ties after one season.

“We’ll see,” Ugarte told Amazon Prime. “I would love to [stay at PSG]. We’ll have to see. For now, I’m here and enjoying the end of the season.”
