‘Stopped Playing’ – PSG Superstar Criticized for Final Months as Real Madrid Move Looms

In just a few weeks, Kylian Mbappé will be making his move from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid. Nonetheless, one pundit believes the Frenchman has already had his eyes on leaving for several months.

PSG defeated Olympique Lyonnais 2-1 in the Coupe de France Final at the Stade Pierre Mauroy last weekend in Mbappé’s final game with the capital club. The 25-year-old didn’t score to have that storybook ending to this chapter, but he does get to lift one final trophy.

Still, RMC Sport pundit Daniel Riolo believes that the player could probably care less about winning one last trophy with PSG. For Riolo, Mbappé checked out of mentality six months ago, which might explain his performance in the UEFA Champions League semifinal tie against Borussia Dortmund.

“Kylian Mbappé? I’m fine with hitting on him as much as you want for the past three, four months because we know how much he totally lost it in terms of training,” Riolo said (h/t Le10Sport). “He really let everything go.

“But let’s rewind the film of this year. (…) This year, we’ve dragged along a player who completely stopped playing six months ago, who has had personal problems that you can’t even imagine.”

It’s a bittersweet ending, but it’s time for both parties to go their separate ways this summer, and for PSG, it marks a new era, where for now, there’s no true superstar that many have come used to seeing.
