PSG Star’s Early Real Madrid Decision Questioned After Champions League Exit

Paris Saint-Germain got knocked out of the UEFA Champions League this week. They lost 1-0 in the second leg, with an aggregate score of 2-0 against them. There’s been a flurry of comments from Parisians about crashing out in the semifinals.

After PSG’s defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, it signaled a notable change as Kylian Mbappé wrapped up his last Champions League game with the team.

Numerous reports indicate a move to Real Madrid in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, one outlet states that deciding on his future during the latter stages of the 2023-24 season did more harm than good for the player.

For L’Équipe (h/t Le10Sport), Mbappé put himself in this situation alone. The French media outlet questions the timing of his announcement to PSG’s leaders that he was leaving the club.

While one might have thought that the earlier Mbappé announced his decision, the more liberated he would be, the opposite happened. On February 13th, he chose on his own to inform club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi of his departure, with the media outlet noting that it was probably not a good idea.

It’ll be fascinating to watch how the French giants handle replacing the 25-year-old, but this summer marks the beginning of a new era.
