Paris Saint-Germain veteran Marco Asensio has played alongside and against top Spanish talent during his career. In an interview with Bleacher Report, the former Real Madrid star was put in the role of an executive.
The outlet asked Asensio what player he would want to buy if he ran a club and noted that his top target is Manchester City midfielder Rodri. Asensio has played against his fellow countrymen and has been teammates with him while playing for La Roja.
“A Spanish player that I would recruit? Rodri,” Asensio told the outlet (h/t Le10Sport). “Because he is a player who has won a lot. He is young, he has developed a lot in recent years at Manchester City, and he is a very important player for Spain too.”
PSG will be in the market for a midfielder to bolster the group this summer. If the capital club were to ask the 28-year-old who they should pursue, there’s no doubt he’d recommend the Manchester City star.
Nonetheless, the Spanish midfielder would be a rather expensive pursuit for the Parisians. According to Transfermarkt, Rodri’s transfer value is at €110 million, and he is under contract until 2027, so that amount would likely be the starting point for any talks over the midfielder.
Still, it’s hard to see Rodri leaving anywhere. As a result, Asensio might have to be content with playing alongside him in the Spanish national team.
