PSG Gains Edge Over Barcelona with Absence of Key Superstar, Pundit Says

FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain will face off in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, with both teams feeling confident about their chances to advance to the semifinals.

In a recent interview with Le Parisien, Ludovic Giuly shared his thoughts on the upcoming Champions League quarter-final match between PSG and FC Barcelona.

The former Monaco player suggested that Barcelona’s lack of a key player might be a disadvantage for them. PSG have Kylian Mbappé in their squad and Giuly notes that this could prove to be the difference maker in the tie.

“In my opinion, there isn’t really a clear favorite; it’s going to be tough for Paris, but it’ll be two good matches,” Giuly told the French media outlet. “What’s lacking in Barcelona right now is a star. In every generation, there has been a phenomenon, so yes, today we have a phenomenon who is 16 years old (Lamine Yamal), but they need another one.

“Is Lewandowski a phenomenon? In Spain, they say ‘El Fenomeno’, ‘El Crack’, but they don’t have that yet. Barcelona has good players but they don’t have a standout player like Mbappé, and that could make the difference.”

The winner of this matchup will play against Atletico Madrid or Borussia Dortmund in the semifinals, putting PSG or Barcelona on track to the final in London. Additionally, the two-match series will feature a showdown between PSG coach Luis Enrique and his former team and mark the return of Ousmane Dembélé.

It will be interesting to see whether the 25-year-old does indeed tilt the matchup in the Parisians’ favor.
