This summer, Paris Saint-Germain will have money to spend with the reported departure of Kylian Mbappé. One of the positions that could see a boost this summer is the midfield; a prominent target is Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães.

In January, a report came out that PSG manager Luis Enrique is obsessed with Guimarães. The Brazilian midfielder is at the top of the list for the 53-year-old to strengthen the midfield.

Guimarães boasts a €115 million release clause that isn’t a wild figure. As a result, PSG must activate it or approach that amount to secure the coveted star from Newcastle. Journalist Ben Jacobs noted that the affordable release clause makes the Brazilian a prime target for the Parisians.

“Bruno Guimarães, at Newcastle, is a slightly easier midfielder to recruit because he has a release clause slightly higher than €100 million, and Newcastle are expected to need to sell a lot of players if they fail to qualify for Europe next season,” Jacobs noted on CaughtOffside (h/t Le10Sport).

The capital club has promising players in the midfield. However, adding Guimarães would add that marquee player to anchor the position. It will be interesting to see if PSG makes the Newcastle star their first major summer signing to begin a new era.
