Kylian Mbappé has scored five goals against Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Vélodrome. With the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner likely leaving this summer, this might be the last time the Frenchman plays at this venue at the club level.
The latest installment of Le Classique was on Sunday, and the Paris Saint-Germain star spoke with Téléfoot about playing as a visitor at the Vélodrome. As a result, the 25-year-old was also asked about his favorite goal scored at the Vélodrome and picked one that has a lot of sentimental value to him.
“My favorite of the five goals scored at the Vélodrome? I’ve scored some beauties there, but I’d say the last one,” Mbappé told the French media outlet (h/t Le10Sport).
“Symbolically, too, because I equaled Edinson Cavani’s record. The sequence is beautiful, there’s a one-two, a volley, and it’s Messi who passes you the ball, possibly the greatest player in history. We won 3-0; it was a good memory.”
If Mbappé does indeed leave as a free agent this summer, the months are a countdown as he likely reminisces about the various venues and clubs he’s enjoyed playing against in Ligue 1. The PSG star has a chance to win the league and domestic cup to close out his time in France as many expect him to join Real Madrid.
