What Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé Have to Sort out Before Agreeing to a Deal

Real Madrid still needs to sort out some items to land Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé. Despite some outlets reporting that the 25-year-old is going to the Spanish capital, journalist Ben Jacobs isn’t going that far.

Jacobs provided key details in his latest column for CaughtOffside that the La Liga side needs to sort out with the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner before anything becomes official.

According to Jacobs, Mbappé must address several matters with Real Madrid before formalizing his signing. Foremost among these is the salary negotiation, given that Real’s offer falls below PSG’s proposed €70 million per year.

It’s understood that Mbappé is willing to accept a reduced salary, particularly given the substantial signing-on fee he’ll receive. Another crucial aspect is that Real Madrid must grant Mbappé permission to compete in the Paris Olympics this summer.

The Olympics are non-negotiable for Mbappé, as he’s also set to represent France at Euro 2024. Consequently, he’ll be unavailable from June to August when factoring in training camps, matches, and necessary rest periods.

Finally, Jacobs shares that Mbappe is content with entering free agency and participating in both tournaments. Afterward, he would sort out his future as necessary. If he decides to join Real, they might also consider postponing his start date to save around €20 million in wages during a summer when Mbappe won’t be involved in their pre-season activities.
