Kylian Mbappé’s Olympic Ambition Upsets Spanish Press Amid Real Madrid Transfer Move

It’s not often an athlete has the opportunity to play in a sporting event in their hometown, which is why Kylian Mbappé wants to participate in the 2024 Olympics this summer in Paris.

Reports suggest it’s a stipulation he wants with whoever he signs. However, if the 25-year-old intends to join Real Madrid, the Spanish press is already pushing against the Frenchman playing in the Olympics.

On Cadena Ser, two journalists believe that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s priority should be Real Madrid and not the Olympics.

“It’s quite important that Mbappé signs for Real Madrid, and what he’s going to do first is play in the Olympic Games,” Bruno Alemany said (h/t Le10Sport).

“If he signs for Real Madrid, what he should do is play with Real Madrid,” Anton Meana added. “You are not there to make your dreams come true. You are there to fulfill your contract.”

It’s likely that Real Madrid will allow Mbappé to play both UEFA Euro 2024 and the Olympics in one summer to ensure his signature. Nonetheless, the desire to play both tournaments will not be well-received by some in the Spanish press.

Furthermore, if the forward gets off to a slow start or is injured, then it will open up another can of worms for him.
