The January transfer window closes this week, but that doesn’t mean the Kylian Mbappé transfer saga is over. The 25-year-old can sign a pre-contract between now and June, when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires.
Nonetheless, it appears that PSG wants to push Mbappé toward making a decision. Journalist Tomas Roncero appeared on La Cadena SER to discuss the latest in the saga.
Roncero points out that with the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 looming for Paris Saint-Germain, with their first leg against Real Sociedad scheduled for February 14th, the club is eager to learn Mbappé’s decision.
“He likes to make himself interesting, but PSG has already told his mother and his entourage that he can’t wait any longer,” Roncero said on the Spanish media outlet (h/t Le10Sport). “Upon the return of the Champions League, the club, the supporters, and everyone want to know if Mbappé will be part of the club’s future or not. We will know Mbappé’s decision within a maximum of 12 days.”
Should Mbappé choose to join Real Madrid, the 25-year-old would likely become the focal point of the league, featuring prominently in their marketing efforts. Consequently, it’s understandable why La Liga president Javier Tebas feels optimistic about the prospect of the Frenchman’s arrival.
With the departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in recent years, La Liga has lacked a standout superstar to lead the way. Therefore, the league would warmly welcome the potential addition of the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner.
