Xavi Simons continues to take steps in his development with RB Leipzig. Every assist and goal has many Paris Saint-Germain supporters envisioning the 20-year-old with the capital club for the 2024-25 season.
However, the German club wants to hold onto Simons, who is on a loan deal. It’s hard to imagine them paying any significant fee for the Dutch international. Still, they could convince PSG to sign another loan agreement.
RB Leipzig wants to keep Xavi at all cost
In speaking with BILD, Rouven Schröder, Leipzig’s sporting director, has hinted that the club will do everything possible to keep Xavi Simons at the end of the season.
“I think it’s good to have a bit of calm and be content with what we have at the moment,” Schröder said (h/t Foot Mercato). “He suits us perfectly, is a key player, and is also worth his weight in gold for our image. For example, he’s always a topic of conversation with the players. People say, ‘If Xavi feels comfortable here, then things must be pretty good at RB’ (laughs).
“He gives a huge boost to the Leipzig institution. Xavi identifies with us and lives it all completely. We just appreciate that he’s here now. We did everything we could internally to get him here. We must succeed again.”
It will be interesting to see what PSG and Simons decide to do after this season. Does Simons think another season in Germany can help him, or is it time to take another challenge and see if playing in Paris is what’s next after loan stints with PSV Eindhoven and Leipzig?
