PSG Champions League Prowess: Only Real Madrid, Bayern Outshine Them

It was a rollercoaster ride on Matchday 6 for Paris Saint-Germain. The Parisians were on the verge of heading to the UEFA Europa League.

However, luck was on their side as they advanced to the UEFA Champions League round of 16, finishing second in Group F after the 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night at Signal Iduna Park.

After Newcastle United scored first against AC Milan and Dortmund opened the scoring over PSG, it was looking bleak for the Parisians. Nonetheless, the Ligue 1 side’s luck turned within minutes as teenage midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery leveled the match at 1-1.

Then PSG received a gift from AC Milan as Christian Pulisic scored the tying goal against the Magpies. Additionally, the help from the Serie A club didn’t stop there, as Samuel Chukwueze netted the Italians’ second goal for a 2-1 advantage.

As a result, PSG secured the two outcomes needed to advance to the knockout stage. Furthermore, only two other clubs have qualified for the round of 16 more frequently than the French giants.

OptaJean highlighted on X that Paris has reached the knockout stage of the Champions League for the 12th consecutive time. Only Real Madrid (21) and Bayern Munich (16) are currently on a longer run.

Next up for PSG will be a date with one of Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, or FC Barcelona. The round of 16 draw will occur on Dec. 18.
