Nottingham Forest’s Near-Miss: The €80M PSG Star That Slipped Away

Premier League side Nottingham Forest had an opportunity to land one of Paris Saint-Germain’s top offensive talents during the 2022 summer transfer window: Gonçalo Ramos.

The Athletic revealed that when Forest earned a promotion to the Premier League, super agent Jorge Mendes proposed Ramos in a deal that would have been landing a prominent striker for a newly promoted club.

Ramos, who scored a hat-trick for Portugal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, was being offered from Benfica. But Ramos decided to stay where he was. As a result, Forest missed out on a player who has since moved to PSG in a €80 million deal.

At PSG, it’s been a rollercoaster ride for the Portugal international. The 22-year-old has yet to solidify his role as the team’s No. 1 striker. As a result, he’s had to split minutes for the position.

It will be interesting to see if Ramos can find his footing in the second half of the 2023-24 season. PSG will be playing in multiple competitions domestically and internationally, so he could receive minutes to boost his confidence.
