Real Madrid Club Chief Gives Bold Take on Mbappé Extending His PSG Contract in 2022

In 2022, Kylian Mbappé had the opportunity to leave Paris Saint-Germain and sign with Real Madrid as a free agent. Throughout the 2021–22 season, the rumors about what the Frenchman would do were constant.

Eventually, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner decided to extend his contract with PSG. However, Real Madrid club chief José Manuel Otero believes the 24-year-old understands he made a mistake staying with his hometown club.

“If we ask him today and he is sincere and speaks, Mbappé will say that he regrets this decision,” Otero told AS (h/t Le10Sport). “Mbappé was such a young player, they flooded him with money, and he decided. (…) He could have already won a Champions League and been happy in Madrid.”

The Real Madrid club chief has been loud about Los Blancos landing the forward next summer. Otero is confident that the La Liga side will secure Mbappé when the winger hits the open market after this 2023–24 season.

Nonetheless, these comments could come back to bite the Spanish side. On Tuesday’s edition of El Chiringuito, Pedro Bravo warned that PSG could report Real Madrid for the remarks made by Otero.

It will be interesting to see if there’s any fallout from this entire interview or whether the French club will keep their thoughts silent.
