Paris Saint-Germain spent a lot of money this summer transfer window to overhaul its squad and give it a new identity. After moving on from Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr., the capital club has gone in a different direction with their project.
The Ligue 1 giants splurged cash on the transfers of Randal Kolo Muani, Manuel Ugarte, and Ousmane Dembélé, to name a few. Furthermore, in terms of net spending, PSG outspent Chelsea FC this summer.
ESPN FC’s Gab Marcotti had a surprising reaction when he was told that the French giants, not the Blues, would be the highest spender by the end of the transfer window. However, the highest net spender title will return to the London club once Marco Verratti officially moves to Qatar.
“Paris Saint-Germain have somehow, despite selling Neymar for €90 million, actually, in net terms, outspent Chelsea,” Marcotti recently said on The Gab & Juls Show. “It’s very close. Now, obviously, that will change if they get money back for Verratti, which we think will probably happen, but I was blown away from it. Still, far behind Al-Hilal, which is €350,000,000 net spent.”
PSG went all in this summer, and their transfer window spending will likely be conservative. The Parisians added to their defense, midfield, and attack with players that should all be part of a long-term future under manager Luis Enrique.
