How PSG Beat Out Chelsea for Manuel Ugarte This Summer Transfer Window – Report

Details are beginning to fall out from transfers now that the 2023 summer window has come and gone. The Manuel Ugarte saga pinned Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea as both clubs vied for the Uruguayan.

The French club would eventually beat the Blues for the Sporting CP midfielder. Now, the question is how did PSG beat out the allure of the Premier League to convince the 22-year-old to head to Paris instead of London?

Le Parisien reports that club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi intervened to discuss and convince Ugarte when Chelsea was pushing to sign him. The involvement of Al-Khelaifi altered the Ligue 1 giant’s midfield.

Through three matches, Ugarte has proved his worth being that midfielder that can win back the ball and bring that physicality to the position. If this is how he will play for his entire tenure at PSG, then the club has struck gold, considering the price.

PSG has struggled to replace Thiago Motta since his departure in 2018. The French side has attempted with various other players, but finally, they might have that long-term replacement.
