Neymar Reveals Knowing Messi Would Come to PSG After Barcelona Exit in 2021

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar Jr. spoke extensively concerning the French giants. Now that the Lionel Messi era is over with the Ligue 1 side, the Brazilian share various details during those two seasons.

The 31-year-old shed light on the saga that led Messi to sign with PSG after leaving FC Barcelona in 2021. Messi’s exit from Barcelona came after the club’s financial constraints.

As a result, it prevented them from renewing his contract while remaining compliant with La Liga’s strict salary cap regulations. The French giants eventually opened the door for Messi to arrive for two seasons.

“I already knew, right?” Neymar said in an interview with the Youtube channel “Que Papinho” (h/t ESPN Brazil). “I kept asking him. It was in the last few weeks he was in doubt, then at the end, he told me where he was going. Messi won everything already. His family was very affected in those two years at PSG.

“I understand him [and] his family. He went to a country where he will be welcomed, live a completely different life and his family will feel very good in Miami. It was difficult years for us together, but I wish him all the best. A fantastic guy who is much more off than on the field.”

Messi’s arrival allowed PSG to form a scary attack alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. However, as Neymar explained, the trio couldn’t lead Paris to UEFA Champions League glory.

During the trio’s two seasons, the capital club failed to advance past the round of 16 as Real Madrid and FC Bayern Munich eliminated them.
