Sergio Busquets Breaks Silence on the Rumored Connected Future to Messi

FC Barcelona veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets will leave the Spanish club after the 2022-23 season as his contract expires on June 30. Nonetheless, the 34-year-old noted that his future isn’t tied to Lionel Messi.

Busquets leaving the Spanish club caused speculation as to whether that hurts the club’s chances of landing Messi this summer once his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires on June 30. Nonetheless, Busquets wanted to clear up the situation.

“[Messi] is not linked to anything or has anything to do with it,” Busquets said (h/t Mundo Deportivo). “Each one has to make decisions; each one has his life, his intentions, his family. Of course, we would all like to coincide and play with Leo again because he is the best in the world … He has nothing to do with it.”

Several players and club chiefs at Barcelona have expressed their desire to have Messi return to Camp Nou. The major hurdle is the club’s finances as the Catalan side will have to offload salaries to ensure they can register Messi.

As for Busquets, he’s linked to a move to Al-Hilal and Inter Miami, two clubs in the mix for Messi. If the midfielder signs with either of those two clubs, many will assume its to help lure the Argentine.

Nonetheless, with a couple of matches left in the 2022-23 Ligue 1 season, the Messi rumors and comments will only get louder.
