The Kylian Mbappe contract extension saga is slowly beginning as the 24-year-old reportedly declined the option to extend his current deal until 2025.
Mbappe likely wants to see if PSG will build a squad that can contend in the UEFA Champions League. The French giants have sporting advisor Luis Campos, who Mbappe trusts but have to get the ball rolling on improving the team.
In speaking with L’Equipe, Mbappe was asked about signing a contract extension, where the forward gave a non-committal response to the media outlet.
“I’m very happy, I’m enjoying it,” Mbappe told L’Equipe. “I’m the best player, that’s the most important thing. I have a contract, I still have next year. I will be there and I will be very happy.”

PSG moving fast to reportedly land Lucas Hernandez and Manuel Ugarte might be a way to show Mbappe that the club is serious about building a team around him.
Furthermore, with Messi likely leaving as his contract expires on June 30 and the uncertain future of Neymar Jr., the France international can be the face of the project, at least heading into the 2023-24 season.
