‘Do Not Ask Me’ – Al-Hilal Club Chief Sounds Off on Messi Rumors

The future of Lionel Messi remains uncertain as the 35-year-old’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in June. Messi has yet to sign a pre-contract with any club or even an extension with the French giants.

Even so, the Argentine’s name is still in the rumor mill. One club linked to the veteran is Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, who are looking to bring in a superstar player after rival Al-Nassr signed Cristiano Ronaldo last December.

However, Al-Hilal president Fahad Bin Saad Bin Nafel downplayed the rumors regarding the reports linking the club to the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner.

“Do not ask me about Messi,” Bin Nafel told reporters after Al-Hilal won the King Cup on Friday. “I will not give any news. If something official comes out you will find it in the press department.”

Al-Hilal is working to convince the Argentine with a multi-million dollar offer. Nonetheless, other clubs reportedly in the mix for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner are FC Barcelona — whose financial situation will play a part in their ability to land Messi this summer — and MLS side Inter Miami.

According to reports, Messi wants to remain in Europe, but if PSG and Barcelona aren’t options, it might be difficult for him to stay in the continent unless another club comes out from left field.
