Why Barcelona’s Pedri Continues to Back Lionel Messi in GOAT Debate

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were in a neck-and-neck debate about which player was better. Both players had won numerous trophies with their respective clubs and national teams.

However, the trophy that had long eluded the two was the FIFA World Cup, which would change in 2022. Messi would lift the trophy, and for his former FC Barcelona teammate, Pedri, it’s enough for the Argentine to have the GOAT status.

“I have always been clear on this,” Pedri told TCL Electronics. “Since I saw Leo as a little boy, he was the best. And when I had the opportunity to play with him, he confirmed it to me.

“We already saw in the World Cup what he is capable of doing and what he has been doing for many years.”

Messi must now decide whether he’s content with his European career or would like to add more silverware to his trophy cabinet. The 35-year-old’s contract expires in June, and Messi’s future in Paris could be determined against Bayern Munich on Wednesday at Allianz Arena.

If Europe is over for him, Messi’s likely destination could be North America by joining MLS side Inter Miami. Nonetheless, these next few weeks will decide where the veteran forward will continue his playing career.
