Paris Saint-Germain and Lionel Messi reportedly have two significant hurdles preventing the parties from agreeing on a contract extension.
As a result, more information is coming out of France that hints that a departure is a likely outcome. L’Equipe reported on Wednesday that Messi is increasingly outside the capital club rather than the two sides coming together on a new contract.

Inside PSG, there is more and more pessimism regarding an extension. The French giants believe that with Neymar Jr., Messi and Kylian Mbappé, the team has many imbalances and the departure of the Argentine, free in June, is simpler.
Nonetheless, the wages could be what dooms an extension as L’Equipe also reports that the capital club wants to keep him, but his €3.375 million gross per month salary is too expensive for them.
It will be interesting to see if Messi wants this salary should FC Barcelona attempt to find a deal that allows the 35-year-old to return to Camp Nou. However, if the Spanish side cannot afford to pay that, then the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner will need to reconsider his wage demands.
