Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi is on the verge of reaching yet another milestone in his historic career.
Messi was a standout performer in PSG’s Ligue 1 away win over Olympique de Marseille on matchday 25, as he chipped in with one goal and two assists in the contest. The Argentine’s lone goal of the match was the 12th goal of his ongoing second season in Ligue 1.
Overall, Messi has scored 492 league goals in his career, with 472 coming in La Liga and 18 coming in Ligue 1.
With another eight goals scored in league play, the Argentine forward will then become the latest player to join the 500 league goals club, which features Cristiano Ronaldo.
PSG will have a mere three Ligue 1 fixtures in March, so unless Messi turns back the clock with vintage goal-scoring performances in the coming weeks, he will have to wait a while to reach this feat.
Messi is slated to feature in PSG’s upcoming Ligue 1 home fixture against Nantes on matchday 26.
