Galtier Reveals the Mindset of the PSG Squad Following the Champions League Exit vs. Bayern Munich

Much talk around the footballing world as of late has centered on Paris Saint-Germain’s second consecutive exit in the UEFA Champions League round of 16. Bayern Munich clinched a 3-0 aggregate win over PSG on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinal round of the competition.

PSG will now shift its full attention to the remainder of the ongoing Ligue 1 season, but its Champions League elimination at the hands of Bayern Munich will be a tough pill to swallow for the players on the roster. As PSG manager Christophe Galtier touched on during a pre-match press conference ahead of the Ligue 1 away fixture against Brest, there has been a feeling of “disappointment” within the squad since its Champions League exit.

“Right away in the locker room, obviously there was a lot of disappointment, anger too because you are in the excitement and disappointment,” Galtier said. “We stayed in Munich, we traveled yesterday. Obviously the players were tired and very disappointed. Resignation, no, but disappointment, that’s quite normal. We talked about it this morning, it’s a big disappointment.

“There was a lot of expectation among us internally.”

Galtier now wants his squad to go all out to win the Ligue 1 title this season.

“There is always a risk, but that’s what I was saying this morning to my players,” Galtier said. “PSG is the champion in the title. If PSG wins this title, it will be the eleventh, which has never been done in our championship.

“We should not minimize the fact of being French champion. We have players who have extraordinary records but who are obsessed with adding a line. We have players who don’t have a very good record of achievement, and to win the French championship is very important.”

PSG will look to extend its Ligue 1 winning streak to four matches when it meets Brest on matchday 27.
