Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has lauded Sergio Ramos as a “natural leader.”
Ramos did not have much to go his way in his first season with PSG in what turned out to be an injury-plagued campaign. The script has flipped for the veteran PSG defender in the ongoing campaign, as he has emerged as a reliable center-back for the club in all competitions. For one, he has started in each of PSG’s seven UEFA Champions League fixtures this season.
During a pre-match press conference ahead of PSG’s Ligue 1 home fixture against Nantes, Galtier took some time to explain why Ramos’ keen play this season has come as no surprise to him at all.
“Sergio Ramos is one of the most successful players with many titles,” Galtier said. “He is a player of very high level who had a difficult season last season with injuries. He is the very example that we must have in a locker room in terms of professionalism, requirement.
“He is a natural leader. … He is a player who is a certain age but with a great deal of experience, who transmits the requirement that one must have every day to be at the very top level.”
Ramos is expected to start in PSG’s upcoming two contests against Nantes in Ligue 1 play and also against Bayern Munich in the Champions League knockout stage.
