Why Dayot Upamecano Confident in Bayern Munich’s Defending Should They Face Kylian Mbappe

Paris Saint-Germain will be without their striker Kylian Mbappe for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League contest against Bayern Munich on Tuesday at the Parc des Princes. The 24-year-old suffered a left thigh injury and is out for three weeks.

Nonetheless, Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano reveals that the Bundesliga side still has a plan for Mbappe should he be ready for the second leg on March 8 at the Allianz Arena.

Upamecano noted that his French national teammate is a great player but believes the Bavarian side’s defensive system is enough to stop any player.

“We spoke at the World Cup, but little about the game; now, I haven’t written or called Kylian,” Upamecano told Sport Bild. “He’s a good guy off the pitch, a normal youngster and a leader who communicates a lot. He’s hard to stop on the pitch. He’s simply world-class.

“It’s better if he doesn’t reach the ball at all. Mbappe is like Messi , like Lewandowski. He’s a fantastic striker. He is always ready and always wants to score. His first step is incredibly fast, he has great qualities, but as a team, we can stop any player.”

PSG will need a positive result next week to allow Mbappe to come back and play a role in the French giants, hopefully passing to the quarterfinals. Nonetheless, obtaining an outcome that gives them momentum when they head back to Germany is challenging.

Lionel Messi and Achraf Hakimi appear to be on injury watch and if those two miss the first leg, then not many will be picking PSG to get a win on Tuesday; it will be interesting to see if anyone in particular steps on in the contest.
