Real Madrid again showed in their 5-2 first-leg win over Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League that they’re never out of a contest. The Reds were up 2-0 over the defending champions but conceded five unanswered goals.
Karim Benzema scored two of those five goals and the veteran goal scorer joined an exclusive group that only has Lionel Messi following the brace in Real Madrid’s victory.
With his double against Liverpool, the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner joined Messi as the only footballer to score in 18 consecutive Champions League seasons. In addition, he was the fourth top scorer in the competition’s history.
