Ligue 1: French Press Reveal When PSG Hopes to Announce Messi Contract Extension

Paris Saint-Germain is likely going to extend Lionel Messi as reports suggest that the 35-year-old will remain for at least another season. However, when the extension becomes official still is a mystery.

There was a report from Spain that PSG would announce the contract extension this week. Nonetheless, it doesn’t seem like that will occur, but in France, L’Equipe (h/t Hadrien Grenier) has new information.

According to the French media outlet, the capital club hopes to complete Messi’s extension by the end of January.

“We have to settle small details. But they are important,” a source within PSG told L’Equipe. These elements relate in particular to the duration of the contract and the player’s salary.

Messi’s second season at PSG has been more productive than his first. The Argentine has found the former he had at Barcelona, which he parlayed into winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Now the veteran forward hopes to add a UEFA Champions League trophy, which would be the first in PSG’s history, to solidify his Ballon d’Or case further, as he’s currently the frontrunner to win the award.
